The Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005 reinforces the general duty on Employers to prepare a Safety Statement for their organisation. The Safety Statement is your safety management system in writing and is a statutory legal document, which confirms your commitment to health and safety and compliance with the legislation. The new course programme deals with the implications of the new Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act and how this will impact on Safety Statement Documentation.

Objectives:

On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand the concepts of health and safety
- Recognise the factors that influence health, safety and welfare at work
- Apply the principles and procedures of health and safety to the workplace
- Understand the importance of hazard identification and risk assessment
- Promote safe working practices and procedures
- Be familiar with core legislation in relation to safety, health and welfare at work
- Be familiar with changes in current legislation
- Be able to prepare and review the safety statement for their workplace

The course program will consist of the following specific learning outcomes:
- Safety, health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 – key issues
- Duties of the employer under Health and Welfare at Work act 2005
- Duties of the employee under Health and Welfare at Work act 2005
- Role of the Health and Safety Authority
- Safety statements
- Hazard identification and risk assessment
Specific areas including:
- Fire safety
- Ergonomics and VDU’s
- Occupational Health
- Occupational hygiene
- Personal Protective equipment (PPE)
- Safety signage
- Emergency procedures
- Accidents – causes and reporting
- Specific risks – noise, dust, chemicals
- First aid provision
- Causes of occupational injury and illness – the facts!
- Stress
- Bullying and harassment
- Drug and alcohol screening

Anyone who want to prepare or review a safety statement for their organisation

Pre-Course Requirements
|
No pre course requirements but English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language. If participants wish to bring an interpreter this can be arranged with prior notice which must be given to Healthforce
|

Assessment / Certification
|
Participants complete a practical exercises on risk assessment and hazard identification and will receive a certificate of attendance on a Safety Statement Training Course
|
