This comprehensive 5 day course covers all the essential aspects of manual handling instruction. It is a highly interactive course and trains participants in instructional skills as well as the theoretical and practical aspects of manual handling of loads and back care.
The course programme includes modules on legislation and the legal requirements for organisations in relation to manual handling and in house instruction. It also includes a module on anatomy of the musculo-skeletal system and mechanisms of injury which delivered by our Nurse Advisor and ergonomist.
Presentations delivered by participants will be filmed and each participant will receive individual feedback from the course tutor. This course includes a written exam and practical assessments.

Objectives:
|
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Instruct others on the theory and techniques of safe manual handling of loads
- Have the knowledge and skill to carry out a basic manual handling risk assessment in the workplace
- Recommend preventative measures which can reduce the risk of injury to the musculo-skeletal system
- Lift and handle loads safely
- Identify ergonomic risks and recommend control measures which can be implemented by organisations to increase safety in relation to manual handling

- Manual Handling Regulations 1993 and 2007
- Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005
- Anatomy and physiology of the musculo-skeletal system
- Biomechanics and mechanism of injury
- Legal aspects of manual handling
- Fitness & Flexibility
- Work Physiology
- Instructional skills
- Working Safely and maintain a safe environment
- Examples of Lifting and Moving Techniques
- Practical Dealing with different types of loads
- Presentations by participants
- Manual Handling Risk Assessment
- Exam
The course is highly interactive and each theory session is accompanied with practical demonstration applicable to the topic, practical tasks and assessment of individual skills.

Who Should Attend
|
Anyone who wants to qualify as a manual handling instructor and deliver manual handling training within an occupational setting
|
|
Pre-Course Requirements
|
No pre course requirements but English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language. If participants wish to bring an interpreter this can be arranged with prior notice which must be given to Healthforce
|
|
Assessment / Certification
|
Participants complete a practical and theoretical exam*
On successful completion of the exam participants will be awarded a Manual Handling Instructors Certificate, accredited by Healthforce
|
