Course Details:

 
This comprehensive three day First Aid course covers all the essential aspects of Occupational First Aid and follows the course requirements laid out in the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and First Aid Regulations 2007.

 
Objectives:

 

  On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Provide necessary first aid within the workplace
  • Deal with first aid emergencies
  • Be able to implement basic life saving skills
  • Successful participants will be registered as Occupational First Aiders with Fetac certification

Programme:

 
DAY 1:

  • Responsibilities of a first aider, assessment and scene management and initial reaction
  • Diagnosis and principles of treatment
  • Examination of a casualty
  • The Nervous System
  • Unconsciousness and casualty management
  • Recovery position
  • Shock
  • Fainting
  • Asphyxia
  • Airway obstruction e.g. Choking
  • CPR
  • Heart attack and angina
  • Wounds and bleeding

DAY 2:

  • Eye injury and treatment
  • Treatment of foreign body, poisoning and chemical splash treatment
  • Burns and scalds
  • Electric shock
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Bandaging and dressings
  • Sprains, strains and dislocation
  • Fractures
  • Head injury
  • Spinal injury
  • Crush injury

DAY 3:

  • Emergency first aid kits
  • Medical Emergencies: Epilepsy, Diabetes and Asthma
  • Revision practical; any requested subject revised; questions; resuscitation
  • Examination practical incident(s) to treat which is examined by an external examiner, CPR.

The course is highly interactive and each theory session is followed by the practical demonstration applicable to the topic, practical tasks and assessment of individual skills.

 
Who Should  Attend
 


Anyone who wants to qualify as an Occupational First Aider and deliver first aid care within an occupational setting.

Pre-Course Requirements
 

 No pre course requirements but English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language. If participants wish to bring an interpreter this can be arranged
 with prior notice which must be given to Healthforce

 

Assessment / Certification

 

Participants complete a practical and theoretical exam*
On successful completion of the exam participants will be awarded the Fetac Occupational First Aid Certificate which is a legally recognised qualification.
